Political skills: power and influence

On September 10, BPW Montreal held its workshop “Développer ses habiletés politiques : pouvoir et influence” in the Les expertes series. The Montreal chapter invited women professionals from different spheres to discuss the skills they need to face the challenges of the workplace.

The workshop focused on the central role of political skills in career management and strategic choices. Whether in business or in the workplace, grasping power dynamics and learning how to navigate this bubble can prove decisive in achieving results. Moderated by female experts, the discussion addressed negotiation, mobilizing positive influence and networking or building clusters of alliances.

Lawrence Esso, chartered public relations consultant and founder of Kelart Communications, was invited to share her experience in crisis management and strategic communications, and offered practical advice on how to take control and develop one’s political skills in a world of constant professional transformation.

“In a professional setting, political skills don’t just mean how to deal with authority. They involve the ability to influence, to negotiate decisions, to manage conflict and to coach interlocking teams,” said Ms. Esso. She insisted that establishing yourself as a person of communication and collaboration is the only ethical and exemplary way to deploy the impact of your own influence.

A true exchange of feminine experiences, enriched by a concrete toolbox for defending your position of power and influence.

Kelart Communications, headed by Lawrence Esso, remains committed to supporting today’s and tomorrow’s leaders in their strategic development.
